Musa Sadr al-Din al-Sadr

Born      4 June 1928 Qom, Iran

Went missing on 31 August 1978 (aged 50) in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya

In 1975, Mr. Musa al-Sadr delivered a sermon on fasting at the Capuchin Fathers Church, entitled “Man in His Needs and Competencies”. He was the first Muslim cleric to give a sermon in a church and had previously lectured at the University of Strasbourg in 1968. He was distinguished by his openness, his unique personality, and his adherence to the need to give Lebanon a civilized image to the world, and that peace was an inevitable historical meeting between Islam and Christianity. There are many theories as to the circumstances of Sadr’s disappearance, none of which have been proven. Its location remains unknown to this day.
